Getting Your Broker License

All Broker candidates must have:

To be eligible for the examination, broker candidates must have held an ACTIVE license that meets one of these criteria:

• Twenty-four (24) months actively licensed, if licensed as an affiliate broker on or before May 12, 1988
• Thirty-six (36) months actively licensed, if licensed as an affiliate broker after May 12, 1988
• Twenty-four (24) months actively licensed, if the candidate has a baccalaureate degree with a major in real estate.

In addition to experience, broker candidates must have successfully completed one hundred twenty (120) hours of approved real estate education. This does NOT include the thirty (30) hours of the "Real Estate Office Broker Management" course taken at a school approved by the Tennessee Real Estate Commission. (TREC)

Real Estate Office Management

This course meets the TREC 30-hour Real Estate Office/Brokerage Management requirement. However, the Commission does not count it for Affiliate Broker continuing education. CLI offers Real Estate Office Broker Management in a convenient home study format.

You may take this course at any time, but the Broker application will not be accepted until all 120 hours of education are completed and approved by TREC.

Accelerated Review Course

The Broker exam also has sections on National and Tennessee State Law. The required Real Estate Office Management course prepares you to be a Broker but is not designed to prepare you to pass the exam. To study for this exam, you will need to study the same material as the Affiliate exam. The Broker exam will be very similar to the Affiliate exam; however, the Broker exam test questions will be more in-depth.

If it has been quite a while since you took the Affiliate Broker exam, you may want to take CLI’s Accelerated Review Course to refresh yourself on the test content and practice answering exam questions (currently offered as a video course).

Course Fee: $115 ($100 for former CLI students). The course includes a textbook that retails for $40.

TN Exam Prep Booklet is available for $30.00. This workbook provides a quick review of fundamental concepts and offers support to students who may experience anxiety in dealing with mathematical concepts. It improves your math skills and prepares you for actual real estate transactions.
